B2B sales on Shopify in India have changed materially in 2026 with Shopify's improved B2B features. If you are selling wholesale to retailers, distributors, or corporate gifting buyers, here is how to set up your B2B portal correctly.

Shopify B2B vs custom B2B portal

Shopify B2B (available on Plus) gives you customer-specific catalogs, customer-specific pricing, net payment terms, and a dedicated B2B login flow. This is the right choice for most Indian wholesalers.

Custom B2B portal (built on Shopify Basic/Advanced via tag-based logic) — works but limited. No built-in customer-specific pricing, no native net terms. Acceptable for early-stage wholesalers.

If you are doing Rs. 5L+ monthly B2B revenue, upgrade to Plus and use native B2B features. The upgrade pays for itself.

Customer-specific pricing

In Shopify B2B, set base prices on products, then create price lists per customer or per company. Customer A sees the wholesale price for Brand X products; Customer B sees a different wholesale price.

For tag-based custom B2B, create a separate collection of B2B products with hidden prices and a discount code per customer. Less flexible but works on Shopify Basic.

Net payment terms

Native B2B supports Net 15/30/60 directly. Customer places the order, Shopify generates an invoice, customer pays within the agreed window. Shopify tracks aging and overdue.

Without Plus, you mimic this with draft orders. Sales rep creates a draft order in Shopify admin, sends to the customer, customer pays via the link.

GST-compliant B2B invoicing

B2B invoices need the buyer's GSTIN. Add a custom field on the customer registration form to capture GSTIN. Pass it through to the invoice template via metafields.

Inter-state vs intra-state tax logic still applies. Shopify auto-detects place of supply and applies CGST+SGST or IGST.

Minimum order quantity (MOQ)

Add MOQ rules at the product level via metafields and a MOQ-validation app like Bold Quantity Breaks or via a custom Shopify Function.

Common pattern: B2B customers require 10x retail MOQ; cart blocks checkout if total quantity is below MOQ.

Wholesale registration flow

Custom registration form: business name, GSTIN, business type, expected monthly volume. Auto-tag the customer 'wholesale-pending'. You manually review and approve.

On approval, change tag to 'wholesale-approved' which unlocks B2B catalog and pricing. Send an automated welcome email with their portal login.
