Razorpay on Shopify for India: Complete Setup Guide

Razorpay is the standard payment gateway for Shopify stores serving India. UPI alone accounts for 60%+ of online payments in India, and Razorpay is the cleanest way to accept it on Shopify. Here is the full setup.
Prerequisites
Before you start you will need: a Razorpay account with KYC complete, your Shopify admin access, and your GST number if you have one.
Step 1: Activate Razorpay in Shopify
In Shopify admin go to Settings → Payments → Add payment methods → search for Razorpay → Activate. Enter your Razorpay Key ID and Key Secret from your Razorpay dashboard (Account & Settings → API Keys).
Step 2: Configure payment methods
Razorpay supports cards, UPI, net banking, wallets (Paytm, PhonePe, Amazon Pay), and EMI. We recommend enabling all of them — UPI especially, since it is now over 60% of online transactions in India.
Step 3: GST invoice automation
Shopify will generate invoices automatically once you set GST in Settings → Taxes and duties → India. Add your GSTIN, configure CGST/SGST/IGST rates, and Shopify handles the rest.
Step 4: Test with a real payment
Always do a real low-value transaction (₹1) as the final test. Confirm it shows in both Razorpay and Shopify, and that the invoice email arrives.
Common issues
- Webhooks not firing — check Razorpay dashboard → Webhooks, ensure the Shopify URL is registered and active
- Settlement delays — Razorpay settles T+2 by default; you can request T+1 once your account has volume
- Refund failures — refund the original payment in Shopify, not in Razorpay; Shopify pushes the refund through automatically
